Requirements for Joining our Brigade

To become a member of the CFS, you must submit to a police check. Once cleared by the police you may join a brigade as a probationary member. You remain on probation until accepted by the Brigade at a Brigade meeting. You must complete Basic Firefighter 1 (BFF1) certificate within six months and can not ride on an operational appliance until your BFF 1 is completed.

To join this Brigade, you must live close enough to the station to be able to attend the station, when responded from home, in a reasonable time. Most of our members live within 3 minutes but some are up to ten minutes of the station.

Athelstone Brigade will give you opportunities to complete Basic Firefighter 1, Supress Wildfire, and specialty courses such as Operate Breathing Apparatus Open Circuit , First Aid, Road Crash Rescue (RCR) and Hazmat. You must have completed prerequisite courses to attend calls with Metropolitan Fire Servies (MFS), RCR, Hazmat, and structure fires. Athelstone CFS Brigade tries to get all volunteers to a level of training that allows everyone to be able to respond to all calls.

Opportunities also exist for people to become operational support members. These people can handle radio operations, catering, logistics and administration.

The Brigade encourages people wishing to become involved, to contact the station and have your name put on our list so we can contact you should a vacancy arise. Existing members of other CFS Brigades wishing to transfer to Athelstone will be treated on a case by case basis and are not subject to our normal joining processes.

If you are still interested, then please contact us and we will contact you when positions become available.
